And the winner of the Spacepig Hamadeus Sound Effect contest is…

The deadline to enter the Spacepig Hamadeus Sound Effects Contest has passed! The entries all in! It’s time to reveal the winner!

The entries have been in the hands of our ‘celebrity judges’, which include a radio personality who is a comic and action figure afficionado, a comedian/musician with a Batman guitar, a writer and editor at Marvel Comics, and an Eisner award nominated comic book colourist!

KRAK-THOOM!The winning sound effect was “KRAK-THOOM”, as submitted by David Tai of Herndon, Virginia, USA! David will be listed in the credits, and will get a free copy of the book! Just my luck, I have to pay US postage rates!

I’d like to take a moment to introduce you to the celebrity judges, who did actually go the distance in order to get the best sound effect! One even consulted an Emmy Award-nominated sound mixer in Hollywood! The fate of the entrants rested on the shoulders of the following four people!

John Rhett Thomas
Mr. Thomas is bound to get me a proper bio any minute now. Cut him some slack – the man writes and edits books for Marvel Comics, not to mention runs the Marvel Masterworks Message Boards. That he found time to judge the sound effects is miracle enough! In addition to writing Marvel Spotlight, JRT has also written the Art Of Spider-Man Classic and The Art of Iron Man the Movie, as well as books on the art of Mike Deodato, Marko Djurdjevic, all for Marvel Comics.

Ronda Pattison
Ronda Pattison is a Shuster and Eisner award nominated colorist. While probably best known for her work on Atomic Robo and several Star Wars titles, her colors have also appeared in more than a hundred comics from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, IDW and Red 5.

Darcy Toews
Original, hilarious, average build and height. These are phrases used to describe Darcy Toews. Part of the Winnipeg entertainment scene for over 15 years Darcy now focuses his madness writing personalized one-of-a-kind songs and the creation of “The Music of Madness”, his team of multi-instrumental theatric musicians.

Featured on HOT 103, CJOB, CBC, CJCD Yellowknife, and the Metro News, Toews is quickly making a name for himself performing his off beat original material that can make you cry, laugh, or think. Often in the same song.

But despite all his accomplishments he is still often referred to as “The guy with Batman guitar” a distinction that is a tribute to his personal “Comic Nerdness” and his guitar covered in Batman stickers, whom he is the guy with.
